Do you use email reader like Thunder Bird or Outlook to get you email from Gmail? Which protocol are you using? POP or IMAP? Sze-jun Tsai, from Google Help Center guru wrote about the advantage IMAP over POP, and it really clear now that you MUST use IMAP rather than POP to get you email from Google.

Sze-jun Tsai explain the easy way of the advantage IMAP using the picture below;

Now you know the advantage of using IMAP, then you need to set up your email reader and Gmail Setting:

1. Enable your IMAP setting on Gmail
   You can go to “Settings” –> Forwarding and POP/IMAP –> Enable IMAP
2. Setting up your email client

and done. Now you can synch Gmail and your Email Client to make everything simpler and faster.
