Firefox 3 has come up this week and you can set which application that open for mailto object, and the best thing is you can set Gmail web based to open when you click an email address (mailto) on website. Not only Firefox 3 actually this feature is already integrated in Opera as well. Okay… enough with the explaination, lets get on to How To set it up;

Opera:

1) In Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Programs, select ‘mailto‘ and press ‘Edit‘. Then use the command lines below to put in the ‘Other application’ field:

 opera "http://mail.google.com/mail/?view=cm&fs=1&to=%t&su=%s&body=%m&cc=%c&bcc=%b&ui=1"

Note: for Opera 9.5, you need to enter the URL parameter in the parameter field.

Firefox 3:
1) Go to Gmail and sign in.

2) While in Gmail, copy and paste the following into your browser’s address bar and hit enter.

javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler("mailto","https://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s","Gmail")

Google Apps users can use this code (but be sure to replace yourdomain.com with your Google Apps domain name):

javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler("mailto","https://mail.google.com/a/yourdomain.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s","Gmail")

3) Click “Add Application” when you are prompted1 Congrats, you just added Gmail to your browser’s list of mail clients.

4) To set Gmail as your default, click on this link and you will be prompted with a dialog box listing available email applications. By selecting Gmail and checking “Remember my choice for mailto links” you won’t have to tell your browser again. (You don’t actually need to send an email after you click that link.)

5) You can always change this setting by going into “Tools” > “Options” (or “Firefox” > “Preferences,” for Mac users) selecting “Applications” and going to the “mailto” option. There’s a drop down next to the option that lets you change your default. Clicking “Application details” will take you to a settings page where you can completely remove Gmail or other mail apps.

Recently Gmail blog post about the evolution of their Chat feature that build in within their webmail, based on their post they keep improving Gmail Chat feature based on feedback from the user. You can check out the detail about Gmail Chat Evolution here.

So, what so you think the next Gmail Chat will look like? It will be excellent if they can connect to yahoo and MSN accounts so I only need to access Gmail to chat with all my friends that don’t have Google account.

Its been a while since I wrote tips and tricks about traffic and SEO, now I want to share my experiment on how to increase your rss / email subscriber by just doing 3 simple things….. Really? Yeaaaaaa it is… I have done this experiment with 3 weeks and it increase my subscriber from 60 to 90-100, its awsome isn’t? So what are those three?

1. Always add text after your post to subscribe your RSS if they like the post or if they feel that its really good info and they wont miss any of related post in the future.

2. Add a BIG rss icon into your blog (like picture above). Your reader will feel curious about that BIG icon and they can’t resist to click it… yea its true.. I have one reader email me about what it is RSS, because they click that BIG RSS icon on they sidebar.

3. Always write your own articles using your own language style and update it regularly. Why do you need to write with your own language style? your reader know they different between copy paste articles and the articles that you wrote by yourself (especially the people who already subscribe your blog for long time)

Thats it!!! simple isn’t? Now you just to apply this simple ways to your blog and feel the increase with couple weeks. Got any tips on how to increase your subscriber? please leave your comment below.

Do you receive this error?

“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error”

when you updating Alex King’s Popularity Contest plugin? Then you can fix this error by applying this patch and modify your database for popularity contest.

Thats it!!! now it will work fine like before… I forgot to fix this from last 2 months, so there are no data from it,  anyway its good to have it back and running . Thanks to Ken’s Blog who explain it well about it.

Do you use email reader like Thunder Bird or Outlook to get you email from Gmail? Which protocol are you using? POP or IMAP? Sze-jun Tsai, from Google Help Center guru wrote about the advantage IMAP over POP, and it really clear now that you MUST use IMAP rather than POP to get you email from Google.

Now you know the advantage of using IMAP, then you need to set up your email reader and Gmail Setting:

1. Enable your IMAP setting on Gmail
   You can go to “Settings” –> Forwarding and POP/IMAP –> Enable IMAP
