FESTIVAL NUSANTARA Celebrating INDONESIAN Contemporary Music, Dance, Art & Culture
Next month we (Indonesian) will celebrate our independence day on 17th August, usually in Indonesia we celebrate this with many competitions and of course Ceremony (the most boring one lol….). While the solemn ceremonies are taking place, neighborhoods gear up for fun and games for the kids. Krupuk (shrimp chips) eating contests, bike decorating, games, races and lots of fun fill the day. The women are busy in cooking contests to see who can make the biggest krupuk or the most delicious nasi tumpeng. And Panjat Pinang Race (climbing the palm tree that covered by oil, on top of the tree we put the prize like stove, books, electronics, sometime even they put bike :p ) heres the video that I found from youtube (situation in Panjat Pinang Area)
Nasi tumpeng is an Indonesian rice combination dish. Surrounding the large mound of rice flavored with coconut milk and turmeric are piles of fried chicken, fried tempe, salted fish, shredded egg omelet and other tasty dishes.
Ok enough with situation in Indonesia (just make me homesick… really want to go back and meet family and friends) back in Brisbane, the event will be held on Brisbane PowerHouse New farm from 8-12 August 2007.
For more detail information you can check it out in here. On the last day (12th) there will be Music show( Project Pop ), Food stalls, traditional games and many of Free events. So if you interested in Indonesian Culture, Art, Dance, Music and Food Join us in this events
